Who to call, in what order

Clerks of court, parish governing bodies, state veterans service officers, the aging network and the church associations — mapped across all eight parishes. Verify every line marked NEEDS A CALL before it is printed.

Clerks of court — the best idea on this site

Louisiana clerks record a veteran’s honorable discharge free of charge, and the record is confidential — released only to the veteran or a person they designate. That is statewide practice, not a favour.

Think about what that means. Every office below is a room where veterans identify themselves voluntarily, holding the exact document your intake asks for. No festival produces a better-qualified contact, and nobody else is working this channel.

The ask is small: a card holder on the counter, and one sentence from the clerk — “there’s a group that helps with benefits, here’s their card.” No cost, no liability, no paperwork.

Parish governing bodies

Fifteen minutes on a public agenda puts the enterprise in the official minutes — a public record you can show a funder. Agendas are set about a week ahead, so call ten days out.

Note the clustering. Tangipahoa and Washington both meet 2nd and 4th Mondays; Livingston takes the Thursday of the same weeks. Three parishes fit in one week without a conflict.

The six asks for a mayor — none of them money

A mayor of a town of 1,600 has no budget and knows it. She has things worth more, and giving them costs her nothing: a parking lot · fifteen minutes on the agenda · a proclamation · a named liaison · a line in the parish emergency plan · a letter of support.

The emergency-plan line is the highest-value ask on the page: it converts the Resiliency Rally Point from an offer into a designated role. Ask for the letter of support before you need it, not the week the application is due.

State veterans service officers — co-locate, do not compete

Already funded, already staffed, already trusted. Several run itinerant points — fixed days at a satellite location. Those are days veterans already drive in.

Aging network & faith track

One door to all eight

The Capital Area Agency on Aging is the Aging & Disability Resource Center for every one of your eight parishes. One relationship reaches every senior centre in the footprint — start here rather than calling councils one at a time. capitalaaa.org

Work the association, not the church

Eight parishes is several hundred congregations. Louisiana Baptists organises 1,600+ churches into local associations, each with an Associational Mission Strategist whose job is connecting churches to work like yours. Six calls covers the region — the highest leverage per minute anywhere in this plan.

A ready-made list

The Washington Baptist Association publishes a pastor directory across Bogalusa, Franklinton and Angie — the fastest list you will find in the region. basela.org

Still to find

Eastern Louisiana and Tangipahoa Baptist associations’ territories · the Catholic diocesan split between Baton Rouge and New Orleans · AME, CME and COGIC districts · local ministerial alliances. None are published online — ask the clerk of court or the Council on Aging. In parishes this size they always know who convenes the pastors.
